Congratulations Dr Muñoz-Sánchez!

Last Friday, on March 21st just after the beginning of spring, Gonzalo successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled “Episodic mass loss in extreme Red Supergiants“. His work over the last 3+ years at the national Observatory of Athens included a ton of observations and spending a lot of time in data analysis and processing, paying attention to the small details. And he actually got hooked with some of the most extreme Red Supergiant beasts, spending two of his three in total first author papers (with additional 5 as a co-author!) on describing and understanding two weird cases in the LMC, [W60] B90, which proved to be a massive analog to Betelgeuse, and WOH G64, which showed a crazy transition from Red Supergiant to a Yellow Hypergiant.

Best of luck to your new adventures! Which actually start immediately as Gonzalo was accepted to the ESO visitor program and is currently traveling to work in Chile!
